Negatives can be scanned using the transparent materials adapter.
The HP G3010 scanner is a flat bed scanner. Flat bed scanners have a large lid that you lift up to reveal a pane of glass. You place materials to be scanned on the pane of glass, then close the lid to make a scan. The G3010 is able to scan a wide variety of materials, including photo negatives. You will need to use the transparent materials adapter, located in the inside of the scanner's lid, to safely and properly scan negatives with the G3010.
Instructions
1. Turn on the G3010 and the attached computer. Open the scanner's lid.
2. Pull out the transparent materials adapter, which is located on the inside of the scanner's lid. Take out the center portion of the transparent materials adapter, leaving the frame piece.
3. Slide the negatives into the transparent materials adapter. Make sure the shiny side of the negatives is facing you. Slide the transparent materials adapter back into its spot on the inside of the scanner's lid, making sure it is inserted all the way to the far side of its slot.
4. Press the button labeled with a picture of camera film, located on the outside of the scanner's lid. A dialog box will appear on the computer's screen. Click Picture in the box, then Scan Materials Using the Transparent Materials Adapter. Select where on the computer's hard drive you want to save the scanned negatives. Click Scan to begin scanning the negatives.
5. Remove the transparent materials adapter from the scanner's lid. Carefully remove the negatives and reinsert the center portion of the transparent material adapter. Insert the transparent materials adapter back into its slot in the scanner and close the lid.
