Remove A Manual Choke Cable On A 1966 Gmc

Older model trucks use a pull knob in the dash for choking the engine.

After 1970, manufacturers started using electric choke systems. The automatic electric choke automatically adjusts the choke to an open position when the key is turned on. After the engine warms up to a normal operating temperature the choke will automatically shut off. Vehicles such as the 1966 GMC are equipped with manually operated choking systems. Manual operation of the choke to engage your vehicle's motor requires pulling a knob inside the vehicle.

Instructions

1. Raise the hood and remove the wing nut from the center of the breather. Use the pliers if you are unable to remove the wing nut by hand. Remove the cap and breather from the carburetor and unhook all vacuum lines that are attached to the breather by hand.

2. Locate the choke linkage on the side of the carburetor . Use the pliers to grasp the retaining clip and remove it from the linkage. Unhook it by pulling the link end out from the linkage by hand.

3. Remove the jam nut from choke cable handle. Pull the handle so that you pull the cable with the handle. This is located on the dash of the truck.

4. Locate the choke cable under the dash and pull it through the firewall by hand. Remove the cable from the dash.
