Remove The Flow Restrictor On A Moen Kitchen Sink

The flow restrictor in a Moen kitchen faucet restricts water output to reduce water usage. However, in some homes with low water pressure, this restriction means you do not have enough water to clean with or to fill pots quickly. In these cases, the restrictor is often removed. This part is located between the spout head and the spout's tube. Removing it requires few skills and anyone with basic do-it-yourself knowledge can accomplish it in a few minutes.

Instructions

1. Turn the water to the faucet off as a precaution. Turn both valves underneath the sink to the off position to stop water flow to your kitchen faucet.

2. Find the connector on the spout that attaches the spout head to the spout's tube or neck. Grip the connector with a pair of pliers and turn it counterclockwise to unscrew it. Or turn the spout head counterclockwise if there is no connector.

3. Take the spout head off the faucet. Look inside the spout head or the neck of the faucet for a round part. This is the water restrictor.

4. Pull the restrictor out with your finger, or with the end of a screwdriver if necessary. Tap the component lightly to dislodge the restrictor if it does not slide right out.

Tips Warnings

If you need to replace the restrictor, insert a new one and reassemble the faucet by replacing the spray head and tightening the connector.
