It helps to know remove the top of a Maytag dryer if you need to repair yours. With the Maytag dryer top removed you will be able to access most parts within the cabinet. Maytag makes many different models with different methods of removing the top panel. Your model type will determine which method you will need to use.
Instructions
Maytag Centennial Cabinet Types
1. Unplug the dryer from the wall outlet. If you have a gas dryer, turn off the gas shut-off valve.
2. Insert the blade of a plastic putty knife under the corners of the control panel. Slide the putty knife over the retaining spring to release the control panel. Push the top of the panel back to unhook two catches and locking tabs. Position the control panel out of your way without disconnecting any wires.
3. Open up the lint screen door on the top panel. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws located at the lint trap opening. Lift the inlet filter out of the dryer.
4. Use the blade of a putty knife inserted between the front panel and the top panel to release the top panel locking tabs. Lift up on the corner of the top panel while releasing the locking tab. Lift and remove the top panel from the dryer.

5. Pull the Maytag dryer away from the wall so that you can access the rear and have enough room to pull the top panel off.
6. Use a 10mm nut driver to remove two screws from the rear of the top panel. The screws are on two tabs that attach the top panel to the rear panel.
7. Slide the top cover toward the rear of the dryer and remove it from the unit.
Maytag Epic Style Cabinet
8. Pull the Maytag Epic away from the wall to allow room to pull the top cover off of the unit.
9. Use a socket wrench to remove the three hex head screws located on the rear flange of the dryer top cover.
10. Lift up on the rear of the top cover and slide it back to unhook it from the catch brackets. Remove the top away from the dryer.
