Make A Santa Claus With Toddlers

Help toddlers create a jolly image of Santa's face.

Santa Claus is an iconic figure for children who celebrate Christmas. This jolly old elf represents gifts and good cheer, so it's no wonder that he appeals to children. If you are the parent of toddlers or work with children of this age, get them excited about the Christmas season by helping them create Santa Claus crafts. A paper plate, cotton balls and a few other basic materials are all you need to create this craft. Display the completed craft in your home or classroom as a festive decoration during the holiday season.

Instructions

1. Draw a straight line through the center of a white dinner-size paper plate with a pencil or a marker.

2. Provide children with washable red tempera paint and paintbrushes. Have them dip their paintbrushes into the red paint and help them paint the portion of the plate above the line. Allow the paint to dry.

3. Help children glue a red craft pompom in the center of the unpainted portion of the paper plate, creating a nose for Santa Claus.

4. Guide children in gluing two googly eyes, side by side, just below the beginning of the painted portion of the plate.

5. Fill shallow bowls or paper plates with craft glue. Show children dip the bottom of cotton balls into the craft glue and then press them onto the bottom portion of the paper plate, creating a beard for Santa. Have them glue cotton balls along the line in the center of the plate as well, creating a cotton rim for Santa's hat. Glue one last cotton ball on the upper rim of the paper plate, creating a pompom on the Santa's hat. Allow the glue to dry completely.

6. Punch a hole through the top of the paper plate. Thread a red ribbon through the hole and tie the ends of the ribbon into a knot, creating a loop from which the decoration can be displayed.
