The HP Scanjet 8270 is a desktop color scanner with duplex ability. Small enough to fit on a desk, its significant duty cycle is 1,000 pages per day. It comes with a standard automatic document feeder that can hold 50 sheets of documents to be scanned. The HP Scanjet 8270 will scan to file or a USB-connected printer.

This is an EnergyStar-qualified device that consumes no more than 80 watts. It runs on alternating current, 120/230 volts and 50/60 hertz.

The scanner works with the following Windows operating systems; Windows 7, Vista, XP Home, XP Professional, XP x64, XP Media Center and Windows 2000. It is also Macintosh compatible with Mac OS X v10.4.11,10.5 and 10.6.

Input (PC or Macintosh):
The HP Scanjet 8270 comes with a transparency adapter allowing it to scan 35 mm slides and negatives. It scans the following kinds of paper: banner, inkjet, photo and plain. It also can scan 3-D objects, greeting cards, index cards, envelopes, iron-on transfers and labels.
Output PC:
Using a Windows operating system, scanned output file formats include BMP, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, TIFF compressed, PNG, PCX, Flashpix (FPX) PDF, PDG searchable, RTF, HTM and TXT.
Output Macintosh:
Macintosh Operating System users scanned output file formats are TIFF, PICT, JPEG, GIF, FlashPix, Plain Text, PDF, HTML and Rich Text.
Front-Panel Buttons
All the controls for the scanner are on the front-panel divided into 4 quadrants. Their functions are Cancel, Color/Black and White Copy, Copy, Destination, Edit Text (OCR), E-mail, File document, Number of copies, Powersave, Scan document to and Scan picture.
Performance
This scanner performs the following tasks within certain time frames. It will scan a 4-by-6 inch photo to Microsoft Word in less than 28 seconds, a page of text (OCR) in less than 36 seconds and a 4-x-6 inch photo to email in less than 31 seconds.
The scanning speed is up to 25 pages per minute (ppm) single-sided, 5 inches per minute (ipm) two-sided.
Scanning resolution is 4800 dpi with color bit dept of 48-bit. It uses 256 grayscale levels and has a preview speed of 4 seconds.
