The 2001 Honda Accord comes with either four doors or two doors, and the standard engine is a V-6. The alternator is located on the upper left side of the engine, and the tension pulley that releases the alternator belt is just below the alternator. The alternator is very accessible, which makes replacing it somewhat easier than on other vehicles. With a bit of time and a few basic tools, you should be able to change the alternator on your 2001 Accord.
Instructions
1. Remove both battery cables from the battery by loosening the connections using the pliers. Push them off to the side. Lock the pliers onto the arm on the tensioner pulley.
2. Pull the pliers towards the front of the engine to loosen the tension on the belt. Pull the belt off the pulleys on the alternator and the tensioner.
3. Pull the hose in front of the alternator from the clamp using your hand and push the hose aside. Remove the upper and lower mounting bolts from the rear of the alternator using the ratchet set.
4. Pull the alternator from the engine block. Place the new alternator on the engine block and line up the mounting holes on the engine block with the ones on the new alternator. Replace and tighten the bolts to the new alternator.
5. Replace the belt and the battery cables the opposite way that you removed them and close the hood. Start the engine to allow the new alternator to charge for about 10 minutes.
