The average handyman can disassemble the unit within 30 minutes with just a few hand tools. Although the top panel comes off of the washer, it does not have to be completely removed to access the inside of the washer.

Instructions

1. Unplug the Maytag Atlantis washer from the electrical wall outlet. Pull the washer away from the wall so that you have room to work behind it, as necessary.

2. Remove the three screws on top of the control console rear cover plate with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Grasp the top of the console with your fingertips and rock the top forward. Push the bottom of the control console toward the back of the washer to release the six locking tabs. Roll the control console on top of the washer to access the inner components.

3. Label each of the wiring harnesses and connections with masking tape. Press in on the wiring harnesses' locking tabs to disconnect them. Pull off the wires that slip onto component terminals. If necessary, use needle-nose pliers to pull the wire leads from the terminals.

4. Pull on the front corner of the top panel while inserting the blade of a putty knife between the front and top panel. Locate the retaining spring clip with the putty knife blade and press it in to release the clip. Perform the same step on the opposite corner. Raise the top panel into the service position allowing it to rest on its hinges.

5. Remove the inlet hose to the water valve by loosening the compression clamp with a pair of pliers. Lower the top panel and remove the screws that secure the rear control console shield from the back of the top panel. Label and remove the wire connections for the pressure switch and feed hose. Lift the top panel off of the washer and out of your way.

6. Remove the hex head screws that secure the front panel to the side panels with a socket wrench. The screws are in the front panel corner braces close to the top of the cabinet. Raise the front panel up to release it from the bottom securing wire clips and move it out of your way.
