The Hoover SteamVac Ultra model F5881-900 is an older Hoover SteamVac carpet cleaner that is known for its durability, simplicity and effective carpet cleaning. This unit cannot currently be purchased from Hoover. However, you may find the Hoover SteamVac Ultra and its sister model, the Hoover SteamVac Deluxe up for resale on eBay or Craig's List for less than $100. If you are lucky enough to find a Hoover SteamVac Ultra, you should study some basic Hoover Ultra assembly instructions.
Hoover Ultra Assembly
Remove your Hoover unit and place the parts out around you. This way, you will have the parts available at arm's length rather than hunting for them as you assemble your unit.
Affix the handles together by first taking out the clean solution tank from the chassis. Make sure the power cord hook faces rear of the unit, and then stick the upper and lower handles together. Push two of the long bolts through the lower handle and into the upper handle. Secure the bolts with the nuts provided and use a Phillips screwdriver to fasten the entire assembly.
When the sections are together, squeeze the trigger---located on the upper handle---until you hear a loud snap. The loud snap is a part called the trigger rod falling into place. Replace the clean solution tank into the chassis, sliding it forward until the tank is firmly inserted and the handle clicks.
To attach the hose rack, first find the open slots located on the lower back section of the chassis. Fit the hose rack tabs into these openings and slide the rack downward into place. Use your Phillips head screwdriver (and a single screw) to fasten the entire assembly to the back of the Hoover SteamVac Ultra.
Hoover Ultra Instructions
Ensure you have compatible Hoover cleaning solution available for your unit. Cleaning solution not made by Hoover may clog the lines of your Hoover SteamVac Ultra. Fill the cleaning solution tank with a combination of heated water and cleaning solution as directed---feel free to make the water as hot as possible but do not heat the water on a stove. Put the cleaning solution tank into the chassis bottom first and then slide the entire unit inward. Press the tank until it clicks firmly into place.
If you are facing the back of the Hoover SteamVac Ultra, the power pedal will be located on the bottom left of the chassis, and the handle release pedal will be on the lower right of the chassis. Click the handle release pedal and then the power pedal to turn the unit on and begin cleaning.
