Color Bath Salts

Nothing is easier than making colored bath salts. With supplies readily available from the drugstore and the grocery store, the colors of your final product are limited only by your imagination. A simple, safe project to make with kids for teacher gifts or Mother's Day, colored bath salts also are a nice gift to make for yourself. Stored in glass jars they will add a decorative touch to a bathroom and a relaxing addition to your bathwater.

Instructions

1. Mix equal parts Epsom salts and coarse salt together in a bowl. This is the basic bath salts mixture.

2. Blend food coloring until you get the desired color. You only need two drops of dye per cup of bath salts to lightly color the salts. A basic food coloring kit available from a grocery store usually contains red, yellow, green and blue dyes. The dyes can mix to make other colors. The more dye mixed into the bath salt the deeper the color will become.

Some color ideas: green + blue = teal

red +blue = purple

red + yellow = orange

red + a drop of water = pink

pink + blue = light purple or lavender

3. Mix the dye into the bath salts. Stir thoroughly. Add dye one drop at a time as needed to get the desired hue. Stir well after each additional drop.

4. Store your colored bath salts in plastic bags or glass jars or plastic containers.

Tips Warnings

You can add a few drops of essential oils to the bath salts for fragrance.

Add a 1/2 cup of the bath salts while the water is running per bath.

To make black bath salts, mix a drop of red, blue and green dyes together. Little boys think black salts are cool to add to their bathwater.

A cake decorating supply store or web site will carry more premixed food dye colors than are available in the grocery store.
