Ways To Prepare For Ged Test In Spanish

Spanish-speaking students can prepare for the GED exam.

GED stands for general equivalency diploma. The GED exam is given to students to show that they have knowledge equivalent to a high school education. It is possible for members of Spanish-speaking families in the United States to prepare for and take the GED exam. Aside from the difference in language, the Spanish GED and English GED have the same format and questions. The Spanish GED exam has six sections: language arts, writing, social studies, science, reading and mathematics. Students have the option of preparing for the exam at home, in a specialized class or online. Spanish-speaking students have available resources that will work to their advantage in passing the Spanish GED exam.

At Home

Spanish-speaking students have the option of preparing at home with the right tools. PBS has an option called the GED Connection. PBS assists students' study at home by providing programs that will help them prepare for the GED exam. Students can visit the PBS Literacy Link website at www.pbs.org/literacy and enter their ZIP code to obtain local listings of these programs. Students also have the option of ordering GED preparation books. Keys to GED Success is a set of exercise books researched by the GED testing service. They are recommended by the GED Testing Service in preparing students on what to anticipate during the GED exam and can be ordered through the Steck Vaughn website at steckvaughn.hmhco.com/.

Classes

If Spanish-speaking students feel that they could benefit from taking a class to prepare for the GED exam, there are local resources that will help them find and enroll in classes. The GED Testing Service will locate local classes for students by entering a ZIP code at www.gedtest.org/locator. The American Literacy Directory also provides a list of local classes at www.literacydirectory.org. Students can visit the website or call the toll-free number 800-828-8133 for assistance in finding classes. Local programs that assist with the GED exam will be listed in the phone book under GED, Continuing Education or Adult Education.

Online

Spanish-speaking students have the option of preparing for the GED exam online. There are online resources that have information about test sections and what students can expect to see on the GED exam. The American Council on Education provides information about each test section. Students can visit the website at www.acenet.edu for information.

Practice Tests

Spanish-speaking students also have the option of taking practice tests to prepare for the GED exam. Half and full GED practice tests are at www.gedpractice.com and are available in Spanish. PBS also provides online exercises and practice tests at www.pbs.org/literacy.
