Vintage ite imperial breaker panel

Vintage ITE Imperial breaker panel

I have an ITE Imperial Breaker Panel. Its master breaker is labeled, 150A. Number stamped on enclosure behind breakers: EQC28MBA Number on label is #BD488073 Class CTL (Cat # EQC28MBA) It has 28 slots and is full of standard size breakers. Here's my question: Is it possible to substitute some low profile breakers in order to provide more circuits? Currently there is a single 15A breaker serving 2 bedrooms both for fixtures and outlets. There is a notation on the box label that says: Use only ITE EQ-P and EQ-T class CTL circuit breakers or type LK lug kit. Sum of EQT breaker ratings not to exceed 110 Amps per branch circuit bus stab. Suitable for use as service equipment as permitted by Article 364 of the NEC. EQ-P breakers or LK lug kits may be installed in all positions and EQ-T breakers may be installed only in positions 9 thru 20 and 29 thru 40. Originally Posted by Jon Fisher EQ-T breakers may be installed only in positions 9 thru 20 and 29 thru 40. EQ-T breakers are tandems. Your panel allows up to 22 of them installed in the listed positions. Siemens Q-series breakers should be a suitable replacement for the ITE EQ breakers, part no. Q1515 and Q2020 are the 15A and 20A tandem breakers from Siemens. Thanks, that's a relief. I'm pretty new to this and did not know whether this panel was outdated or not. The term tandem fooled me at first, as I got the impression that a tandem anything meant that it was two things intended for one purpose. The tandem breaker (whether 15A or 20A) is really two separate breakers occupying the space that used to be taken up by a single breaker. Your help appreciated!
