The Ingredients In A Locarb Monster

The well known energy drink Monster is available in many different varieties, including regular, coffee mixes, new flavors and the low carb version. Low Carb Monsters are significantly lower in carbs and sugar than other energy drinks, all with a similar taste to that of a regular Monster. The ingredients in Low Carb Monsters span from sweeteners to stimulant ingredients, though many ingredients used to increase energy are naturally occurring.

Sweeteners

Sucrose, more often known as white table sugar, is a main sweetener in Low Carb Monsters, though the simple sugar glucose is also a main sweetener. The calorie-free sweetener sucralose is also used to boost flavor, as is acesulfame potassium --- another calorie-free sweetener also known as "Ace K."

Stimulants

Low Carb Monsters include a wide variety of stimulant ingredients, responsible for the "energy drink" effect. Taurine and l-carnitine (both amino acids), panax ginseng root extract and guarana seed extract (both plant extracts), are all believed to have an energy giving effect. The known stimulant caffeine is another ingredient, as well as vitamins B3, B6, B2 and B12 (as niacinamide, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin and cyanocobalamin, respectively). Glucuronolactone, a metabolism booster, and inositol, an aid for converting food to energy, are also included in small amounts.

Other Ingredients

Other ingredients in Low Carb Monsters include the largest ingredient, carbonated water. Additionally, ascorbic acid (or vitamin C), sodium benzoate (a preservative) and sodium chloride (or salt) are included. Citric acid, a natural, but weak acid, is also added in both citric acid and sodium citrate forms. These ingredients are mainly to ensure the drink's shelf life and proper preservation.

Nutritional Information

Low Carb Monsters boast significantly less carbs and sugars than regular energy drinks. In 8 fluid ounces, there are only 3 grams of sugar, making for 3 total carbs. The drink also contains 180 milligrams of sodium, as well as 10 calories. Low Carb Monsters also contain 60 milligrams of vitamin C plus 1.7 milligrams of riboflavin.
