Fill Empty Vitamin Capsules

Make your own herbal vitamins with empty vitamin capsules.

Vitamin capsules are small, hollow containers made of a water-soluble gelatinous material. Manufacturers put loose vitamin supplements into these capsules to create pills. You can purchase empty vitamin capsules if you would like to make your own supplements in this way. According to H. Winter Griffith, author of "Vitamins, Herbs, Minerals, & Supplements," making your own vitamins is an easy and cost-effective alternative to purchasing pre-filled capsules.

Instructions

1. Wash your hands with warm water and soap, and dry them completely, so that your fingers do not stick to the herbal mixture or the empty vitamin capsules.

2. Separate the two halves of the empty vitamin capsule and set the larger half to the side. Do this by lightly grasping each side of the capsule between thumb and forefinger and pulling them straight apart.

3. Pick up some of the herbal mixture between your thumb and forefinger and sprinkle it into the small half of the vitamin capsule. Fill the half completely and pack the herbal mixture tightly with your thumb.

4. Fill the larger half of the vitamin capsule with loose supplement so that it is half-full. Lightly tap the capsule to help settle the loose supplement into the bottom.

5. Carefully place the half-full vitamin capsule over the end of the full side of the capsule and press the two straight together. Continue pressing with light pressure until you cannot see air within the capsule.

6. Repeat with as many capsules as needed and place the full capsules into an airtight container for storage.
