Treat Vitamin D Deficiency And Its Effects

Vitamin D is known to benefit bone density and calcium absorption. Although common foods contain vitamin D, adults and children generally do not eat them in sufficient amounts. Every year, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) keeps people informed on the benefits of the "sunshine vitamin" as it may stave off the development of diseases such as osteoporosis in later years.

Here are some tips to treat vitamin D deficiency and its effects to keep your bones and immune system strong.

Instructions

1. Stay informed on the latest health updates from the American Academy Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

2. Get some sun. Enjoy a little bit of sunshine every day for about 15 minutes. Outdoors family activities will get your vitamin D batteries all charged up.

3. Eat foods fortified with vitamin D. For example, most of U.S. milk is fortified with 100 IU/cup of vitamin D. It is 25 percent of the Recommended Daily Value.

4. Try vitamin D-rich foods such as fatty fish (salmon, tuna, sardines and mackerel) and cod liver oil.

5. Take a vitamin D supplement on a daily basis. Ask your doctor for more information.
