Prevent Hair Loss In Postmenopausal Women

The hormonal changes associated with menopause can cause the problem of hair loss in women. Approximately 30% of women going through the different stages of menopause can experience some hair loss. Luckily, you can prevent hair loss in post-menopausal women with some simple but effective measures.


Instructions


1. Change your diet to one that is low in fat and high in fiber. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. Include essential fatty acids (flax seed oil or cod liver oil) and vitamin C from fruits and vegetables in your diet.


2. Take multi-vitamins and mineral supplements. Be sure to include vitamin B6, vitamin E, biotin and zinc which can stimulate hair growth. You can also use herbal supplements such as saw palmetto and green tea extract.


3. Get a scalp massage to promote circulation and hair growth.


4. Minimize the use of harsh treatments like bleaching, hair dyes, hair relaxers or perms which can damage the scalp and hair. Improve hair condition and reduce hair loss by using essential oils like rosemary, sage or carrot seed oil on a weekly basis.


5. Refrain from washing your hair on a daily basis to prevent hair loss. Avoid exposing your hair to chlorinated water as well. This can cause damage, so get a shower filter.


6. Manage high stress and negative emotions as these may cause you to lose hair. To relieve stress, try yoga, meditation, music or exercise.


7. Check the medications or drugs you take. Some medications like anticoagulants, thyroid pills or beta blockers can also cause hair loss. To prevent hair loss in post menopausal women due to these medications, it is advisable to see a doctor and get an evaluation.
