Preparation H & Pregnancy

As a pregnant woman's womb increases in size throughout her pregnancy, pressure in the hemorrhoidal veins increases. The pressure in these veins is also greater due to the pregnant woman's increased blood supply. The extra pressure on these veins can lead to hemorrhoids. Preparation H can provide relief for pregnant women suffering from hemorrhoids.

Ointment

Preparation H Ointment provides relief for the internal and external burning, itching and discomfort typical of hemorrhoids. The ointment coats the external area to prevent additional irritation and shrinks the swollen hemorrhoidal tissue. For internal use, attach the applicator provided and insert it into the rectum. Preparation H Ointment can be used up to four times daily.

Cream

Preparation H Cream with Maximum Strength Pain Relief is a smooth cream formula that contains aloe. When applied to the affected area, it reduces the size of hemorrhoidal tissue and relieves pain and discomfort. This cream is meant for external use and for the lower portion of the anal canal. A dispensing cap is provided for application and should only be inserted partway into the anus. Preparation H Anti-Itch Cream Hydrocortisone 1-percent provides maximum strength itch relief. Both creams should be used no more than three to four times per day.

Non-Greasy Gel

Preparation H Cooling Gel contains vitamin E and aloe, which provide cooling relief for the painful burning and itching associated with hemorrhoids. The gel formula is non-greasy and non-staining and can be easily applied up to four times daily. Like the ointment and creams, Preparation H Cooling Gel minimizes swollen hemorrhoidal tissue and alleviates external discomfort.

Suppositories

Preparation H Suppositories can provide nighttime relief for pregnant women suffering from hemorrhoids. The suppositories reduce internal swelling and relieve symptoms such as burning, itching and discomfort. Although Preparation H Suppositories are meant to ease hemorrhoidal symptoms at night, they can also be used during the day, up to four times per day. While the suppositories ease internal discomfort, you can use an ointment, cream or gel for external relief.

Medicated Wipes

Preparation H Medicated Wipes are gently enough to use every day. The flushable wipes contain aloe to cool and soothe hemorrhoidal discomfort. Cleanse the affected area with Preparation H Medicated Wipes up to six times per day to reduce itching and irritation.

Other Treatments

Aside from using Preparation H products, there are other ways to reduce the discomfort that accompanies hemorrhoids. A 15-minute warm water bath can relax a pregnant woman's muscles and ease the itching and burning pain. For hemorrhoidal pressure relief, pregnant women can sit on donut-shaped cushions.
