Counteract The Effects Of Caffeine

Counteract the Effects of Caffeine

Caffeine is a psychoactive stimulant drug that is found naturally in coffee and tea, and placed into cola and energy drinks. Caffeine can also be found in diet pills, designed to increase metabolism. Side effects of consuming caffeine include sweating, shaking, irregular heartbeat and restlessness. If you are feeling any of these symptoms, there are a few things you can do to stabilize your body if you are having trouble sleeping or concentrating.

Instructions

1. Take deep breaths. Breathe in for four counts, then out for eight counts. Repeat this until you feel relaxed.

2. Drink water. Drinking water will help flush the caffeine out of your system and allow your body to process it more quickly. Limit your water intake, however, to one gallon a day, or you risk complications from water overdose.

3. Eat a banana. Bananas contain potassium, which will provide non-jittery energy to your body that counteracts the nervous energy that caffeine provides.

4. Drink chamomile tea instead of coffee or caffeinated tea. Although chamomile tea does have a very small amount of caffeine in it, chamomile has natural healing and calming properties.

5. Take Benadryl if you must. If you are having trouble getting to sleep because you have consumed caffeine before bed, take one Benadryl. Do not make a habit of this, however, as it is not a healthy solution to take stimulants and depressants at the same time.

6. Consult a doctor. If you are unable to catch your breath, or you are having heart palpitations or pain in your chest, contact your doctor immediately. He or she can give you intravenous fluids to flush the caffeine from your system.
