Vitamin E & Glycerine Soaps

Soap containing glycerin and vitamin E protects skin from sun damage..

Washing with soap made of vitamin E and glycerin can make your skin feel soft and healthy. Glycerin draws moisture from the air into your skin, while vitamin E is an antioxidant and protects against sun damage. These ingredients are safe for oily and dry skin.

Glycerin

Glycerin absorbs and retains moisture. If you observe a bar of highly concentrated glycerin soap out of its packaging, you'll see beads of water form on the bar. Because of this moisturizing feature, glycerin is effective at reducing flakiness and the redness of skin inflammation. If you are allergic to glycerin, however, you may experience increased redness, itchiness and swelling of the mouth and face. If you experience severe reactions of any kind, seek immediate medical attention.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a proven antioxidant and absorbs through the skin.

Vitamin E is a form of tocopherols, a type of fat-soluble antioxidant. Antioxidants are believed to slow aging of the skin. The vitamin E most beneficial to humans is alpha-tocopherol acetate, which doesn't oxidize so it won't change chemically in an oxygenated environment. This is beneficial because vitamin E absorbs through the skin and reaches living cells. Approximately 5 percent of the vitamin E applied to the skin reaches its destination and provides antioxidant effects.

Impacts on Oily Skin

The University of Maryland Medical Center recommends glycerin as a moisturizer for people with oily skin. In addition, vitamin E does not clog pores in small amounts, making soap containing both ingredients relatively safe for oily skin. Vitamin E is used to combat acne, so those with oily and acne-prone skin may find a soap healing. You should test the soap on your skin to determine if the amount of vitamin E it contains will clog your pores.

Impact on Dry Skin

Glycerin and vitamin E are especially beneficial for dry skin. Both products will help the skin attract and retain moisture, and a soap can relieve dry skin. If your skin is dry and acne-prone, you may also benefit from soap with combined ingredients. Vitamin E heals sunburns, so if your skin is dry from the weather, the soap can provide relief.
