Children'S Vitamins That Contain Fluoride

There are several brands of vitamins that contain fluoride.

While fluoride is known to help prevent tooth decay, too much of it may cause problems in children. Fluoride is normally present in drinking water and is found in toothpaste, so your child may be receiving an optimal amount. Ingesting too much fluoride in relation to a child's size and weight during the years of tooth development can lead to enamel fluorosis, according to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Consult with your dentist before supplementing your child's diet with vitamins containing fluoride.

Poly-Vi-Flor

Poly-Vi-Flor is a multivitamin and fluoride supplement prescribed for children ages 2 and older. It only should be given once it has been determined your child's drinking water contains less fluoride than the amount recommended by the American Dental Association. It can be purchased in liquid form for small children or in chewable tablets for older children. Inform your dentist if your child begins drinking a new type of water or if you begin to use a filtering system. Consult with your dentist if discoloration or pitting of the teeth occurs.

Soluvite F

This multivitamin is prescribed as a supplement for infants and children who do not receive adequate amounts of fluoride through drinking water. Soluvite F should not be taken with products containing calcium, such as milk, dairy products, calcium supplements or antacids, because calcium may interfere with proper absorption of the multivitamin. In order to prevent an overdose or serious side effects, do not ingest other multivitamin products within two hours of taking Soluvite F.

Tri-A-Vite

Tri-A-Vite multivitamin is commonly prescribed for children living in areas where insufficient amounts of fluoride are added to water, or when children are suffering from a vitamin or mineral deficiency due to poor diet. This multivitamin must be taken at least two hours before or after ingesting dairy products or products such as laxatives or antiacids that contain aluminum magnesium hydroxide. The best time to take this vitamin is daily at bedtime after brushing your teeth.
