Treat A Face Rash After Waxing

It seems almost impossible to avoid a prickly rash that appears on your face soon after waxing for the first time, or after a long break between waxes. Even after the dreaded rash appears, there's a lot you can do to both minimize the pain and the appearance of a face rash.

Instructions

Treat a Face Rash After Waxing

1. Soothe the rash.Reduce swelling and soothe the rash by applying cool water or ice. Dip a soft washcloth in cold water or wrap an ice cube in a washcloth and apply it to the rash, as you can tolerate it, for 10 to 15 minutes. If you are not using ice, re-wet the washcloth every few minutes to keep it nice and cool.

2. Protect your skin under the rash.Wash your hands and apply an antibacterial ointment, such as Neosporin, to the rash. Some contain cortisone which will also help reduce pain and irritation. An antibacterial ointment is important because the skin where the rash is located is exposed and extra-vulnerable to bacteria.

3. Apply Vitamin E or Tea Tree Oil.After the antibacterial ointment has completely absorbed into your skin, apply a generous amount of either vitamin E oil or tea tree oil. Both are excellent at soothing and helping skin heal. Tea tree oil has antibacterial properties, which are helpful, but vitamin E oil is more readily available. They both work well, and the choice is a matter of personal preference, cost and/or availability. If you can only find vitamin E capsules, you can break them open and apply the oil directly to your skin.

4. Avoid harsh soap and cleansers and makeup.Until the rash is healed, do not apply makeup over the rash. Although it is tempting to try and cover it up, makeup will prolong the healing time and could further irritate the rash. Also, do not use soap or other harsh cleansers. Use a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil or Aveeno instead.

5. Continue treatment until the rash is gone.Keep applying antibacterial ointment and vitamin E or tea tree oil several times per day for the first day, and the vitamin E or tea tree oil several times per day until the rash is gone.
