Burt's Bees started making candles from beeswax in 1984. After their first year in business, the company netted $20,000 in sales. By the year 2007, Burt's Bees had reached sales in excess of $250 million with almost 30,000 retail stores selling their products. Some of those stores include Target, Wal-Mart and Walgreens. The Burt's Bees product line is noted for using natural ingredients in their products. Since their humble beginnings, the company has since expanded their offerings to include personal care products.
Burt's Bees Products and Ingredients
Some of the products found in the Burt's Bees line include tinted lip balms made with beeswax and Shea butter to moisturize and protect the skin from aging by promoting elasticity. They also make a body lotion consisting of milk, honey, vitamin E and other essential oils designed to moisturize the skin for as long as 24 hours. Burt's Bees makes a lotion that is hypoallergenic for sensitive skin. The Aloe and Buttermilk lotion contains chamomile and St. John's Wort added as ingredients. When reading the product ingredients, it may appear that they include unnatural chemicals. You may see items such as decyl & lauryl glucosides or decyl polyglucose on the ingredient list. These are actually compounds that are made from natural ingredients. Decyl & lauryl glucosides are made using corn starch and coconut oil instead of sodium lauryl sulfate. The same is true for decyl polyglucose, which is also derived from a combination of cornstarch and coconut oil to create a foaming cleanser.
Target Stores
Target carries approximately 93 Burt's Bees products. Target prices range from around $3 for the purse-sized, pomegranate replenishing lip balm to the "Burt's Bees Starter Bear Box" gift basket that sells for around $65. Mid-range pricing for other Burt's Bees products range from around $7 to $12.
Wal-Mart Stores
Wal-Mart sells about 44 products from Burt's Bees, some of which can only be purchased online from Wal-Mart. At the time of writing, prices range from around $6 for a two-pack of the 1.5 ounce beeswax lip balm to approximately $25 for the Naturally Ageless, Line Smoothing eye cream and the Naturally Ageless, skin firming night cream.
Walgreens Stores
Walgreens, which has a larger selection of Burt's Bees products than Wal-Mart, carries 55 different products. Pricing is relatively the same as with other stores that sell this product line. It costs $3 for the lip balm and $25 for the serum.

Visit Burt's Bees website and type in the name of the city in which you live or your zip code and it will tell you where Burt's Bees products are locally sold. To the right of the map will be listing of stores in your area along with their addresses and phone numbers if you need to inquire about a particular product. You may also find Burt's Bees products in some Albertson's grocery stores and CVS pharmacies.
