Does Vitamin E Reduce Stretch Marks

If you've gained or lost weight, stretch marks are almost unavoidable. Unfortunately, once an individual has stretch marks, it can be difficult to get rid of them. This can be frustrating, especially for an individual who has just lost a lot of weight. It's frustrating because we work hard to lose the weight and want to enjoy it and look good afterward. It can be hard to enjoy it if our trim bodies are full of stretch marks, but vitamin E can help.

Does it Work?

Vitamin E oil naturally repairs the skin. Not only can it be used to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, it also can help with scarring, which is why it is so effective as a stretch mark reducer. Stretch marks occur when the skin stretches out too far and the skin actually breaks, eventually scarring. Because a stretch mark is a type of scar and vitamin E oil can help reduce the appearance of scars, it makes sense that vitamin E oil could be used to reduce stretch marks, too. Vitamin E oil naturally heals the skin's surface. It won't get rid of the stretch marks completely, but it will help reduce their appearance.

Mixing Oils

You can use other oils in conjunction with vitamin E oil. Try the following formula for stretch marks:

½ cup of olive oil

½ cup of aloe vera gel

10 vitamin E caplets (this can be cheaper than buying vitamin E oil at the health food store)

5 vitamin A caplets

Prick and drain the vitamin E and A caplets into a small container or jar. Add olive oil and aloe vera gel, and mix well. Store in the refrigerator and apply daily to the areas where you'd like to reduce stretch marks.

Applying the Oil on Wet Skin

Applying vitamin E oil to your skin after a bath or shower will help. This is when your pores are open and is the best time for the oil to be absorbed into the skin. Try mixing vitamin E oil with baby oil for best results. Vitamin E oil can be purchased from most health-food stores and does not necessarily have to be taken from vitamin E capsules. Mix a portion of the vitamin E oil and the baby oil together in a bowl and then pour into an inexpensive plastic lotion container. Shake to mix. The amount of vitamin E oil you use depends on how much you are able to purchase and how expensive it is.
