Does Biotin Promote Hair Growth

If you are having difficulty growing your hair or preventing it from thinning and falling out, there are several remedies that can help fix those issues. Along with surgical treatments and medicinal remedies that help hair growth, some natural supplements and elements do the same thing, generally without harmful side effects. One of those elements is Biotin, and it has been proven to increase hair strength and growth over time.

What is Biotin?

Biotin is a vitamin B component that provides your body with vitamins and nutrients needed to allow your hair and even your nails to grow strong and fast. It boosts your metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins that are needed for thick hair and increased growth.

Biotin is sometimes also known as vitamin H, and it helps protect your body against dryness and brittle hair follicles that prevent hair growth.

Not only does it do that, but biotin increases the elasticity of your hair follicles and the hair cortex, to help prevent some of the breakage and further damage that stops your hair from thickening and growing well. When taking in biotin regularly and in the right proportions, your hair will thicken and give off the appearance that you have more hair than you actually do.

There are no harmful side effects of biotin, but you should always be sure to take the amount prescribed to you.

How Much Biotin is Necessary?

The amount of biotin you need on a daily basis varies with each person. Before deciding on the biotin levels you should take, consult a physician. You will most likely be told that your daily biotin amounts will depend on your age, height, and weight. Other factors may be involved as well, such as preexisting medical issues and allergies.

Normally, adults are told to take in 30 micrograms per day. If you are pregnant, that amount you will be told to take will most likely increase to 35 micrograms per day because your body and hormones are changing. Children are likely to be given between 6 and 12 micrograms while growing teens will be recommended 15 to 20 micrograms per day.
