Substitute For Vegetable Oil

Melted butter can be substituted for vegetable oil.

If you've decided to bake a cake and just realized you're out of vegetable oil, you need not rush off to the supermarket or convenience store. You can find many substitutes for vegetable oil in your own kitchen. And some substitutes may make whatever you're baking a little more healthy too, so it's a win-win proposition.

Instructions

1. Use any kind of fruit puree as a substitute for vegetable oil. This includes applesauce or prune puree. Use the same amount of applesauce as you would use of vegetable oil. This will make whatever you're cooking less fattening.

2. Use the same amount of melted better or melted margarine as you would use of vegetable oil.

3. Sub in the same amount of melted vegetable shortening for vegetable oil. Vegetable shortening is basically the solid version of vegetable oil.

4. Choose coconut, olive, canola or other kinds of cooking oils as substitutes for vegetable oil. Simply use the same amount of the other oils. Be careful, however, as some oils may give your food a different taste.
