Serve Pita Bread With Humus

Hummus is a creamy Middle Eastern garbanzo dip.

Hummus is a Middle Eastern dip made with chickpeas and tahini, a sesame seed paste. It is high in protein and vitamin E while remaining fairly low in calories. Hummus is usually served with vegetables or pita bread for dipping. Pita bread is a soft bread of somewhat flat rounds, baked with an air pocket in the middle. The bread can be sliced into wedges as is and served with the hummus or baked into crispy chips.

Instructions

1. Add to a food processor 4 minced cloves of garlic, 2 15-oz. cans of chickpeas, 1/3 cup tahini, 6 tbsp. fresh lemon juice, 1/4 cup olive oil and 1/2 tsp. salt. Process until the mixture is smooth.

2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Lay out pita triangles and brush each side with olive oil. Arrange on a cookie sheet. Bake the triangles for 10 minutes.

3. Serve the hummus with the pita chips on the side.
