How Does Eating Spinach Improve Eyesight

How Does Eating Spinach Improve Eyesight?

Lutein

Spinach contains the antioxidant lutein, which as been proven to reduce the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD occurs in the center part of the eye, the macula, leaving only peripheral vision. Lutein is a pigment that protects the macula from the sun's damaging rays.

A Beneficial Superfood

Spinach, a superfood, contains vitamins C and E, B vitamins, minerals, omega-3, beta carotene and phytonutrients and is also low in calories. Research shows that spinach is beneficial in disease prevention, cataracts and weight loss when combined with other healthy vegetables.

Eat Spinach

Spinach can be eaten raw, steamed or cooked. Some specific ways to add more spinach to your diet are to use spinach instead of lettuce on your sandwich, have a raw spinach salad with crumbled boiled eggs, try a wilted spinach salad with a warm dressing or add it to soups and lasagna.
