Alternative Treatments For Peyronie'S Disease

Peyronie's disease is a male sexual disorder that affects the penis. A scar tissue forms under the skin along the penis shaft. The scar tissue is called a plaque and can cause the penis to bend painfully. This may cause erectile dysfunction or even impotence. There are no specific causes of this condition and no specific treatment. Alternative treatments have at times been effective, but are still a trial and error solution.

Enzymes

Combinations of enzymes are being used for the treatment of Peyronies Disease including papain, rutin and nattokinase. However, the affect and success is limited. These enzymes are bottled and available at some chemists and most natural stores. Neprinol is available in a bottle of 300 pills, while Nattokinase comes in bottles of 100.

Acetyl L-Carnitine

A supplement made from amino acids Acetyl L-Carnitine helps restore the male sexual organs and has an effect similar to testosterone, showing improvement in patients with Peyronies Disease. Acetyl L-Carnitine supplement, also called a "brain pill," comes in a dose of 300 mg and is available online or in natural supplement stores.

Dimethyl Sulfoxide [DMSO]

DMSO is a transdermal product that can enter the skin to affect the tissue underneath. DMSO is used in patients with Peyronies Disease, as its anti-inflammatory properties reduce the pain, as well as reduce the scar tissue size by softening it. DMSO is usually available as a spray or cream and can be bought online or at a chemist's shop. However, the spray bought should contain 60 percent DMSO, as an increased intensity can cause rashes and skin irritation.

Heat Therapy

Patients with Peyronies Disease have seen success when given heat therapy in cycles over a period of three to six months. They experience a reduction in scar tissue and increase in penile erections.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E taken orally in increased doses of 500 mg a day has helped patients with Peyronies Disease. It can also be applied topically for faster effects.

Herbal Medicine

Use of Gotu kola (Centella asiatica) helps develop normal connective tissue and helps patients with Peyronies Disease. The use of gotu kola should be continued for at least six weeks and may be in conjunction with other treatments.

Para-aminobenzoate

A substance that is a part of the B-complex molecule family, para-aminobenzoate, seems to help patients with Peyronies Disease when taken orally. Potassium paraaminobenzoate should be taken 4 x 3g/day for 12 months. A definite decrease in plaque of the scar tissue will be seen.
