Cook Trader Joe'S Southwest Salmon

Serve salmon with fresh green vegetables.

Cooking Trader Joe's Southwest Salmon is a terrific way to eat healthy and savor a delicious meal. The meal is high in protein and low in fat. In fact, according to iChange, one serving consists of only 170 calories and two grams of carbohydrates. Trader Joe's features Atlantic salmon, smothered in Southwest-style rub to give the fish flavor a spicy kick. The fish is both boneless and skinless, so there is very little preparation required.

Instructions

1. Preheat an oven to 425 degrees.

2. Grease a baking dish with a layer of olive oil. Olive oil is natural, is high in vitamins and prevents the fish from sticking to the dish.

3. Place the fillet in the center of the dish. Evenly space fillets if you are cooking more than one.

4. Grate fresh orange peel into a small bowl. Add one teaspoon of grated peel to the top of each fillet, to add a hint of citrus tang to the spicy flavor.

5. Cook the salmon. Keep it in the oven 10 minutes for every inch of fish. For example, bake it for 15 minutes if your fish is 1.5-inches thick. Measure it at the thickest part of the salmon.

6. Remove the dish from the oven. Insert a toothpick into the center of the fillet. Remove the toothpick and examine it. If the toothpick is clear of fish flakes or residue, the salmon is ready to eat. A toothpick with flakes or residue indicates more time is needed. Continue cooking until the toothpick comes out clean.
