Stop Frequent Fever Blisters

If you are subject to frequent fever blister outbreaks, you may be feeling like you're just really unlucky. Surprisingly, fever blisters are more predictable than you think, and innocent things you're doing may be encouraging the herpes simplex virus. You may not need expensive over-the-counter drugs to combat cold sores. Changing your diet, using sunscreen and taking vitamins are some of the most effective methods against fever blisters, and all of these techniques can lead to an overall healthier lifestyle.

Instructions

1. Take between 500 and 1,000 mg of lysine every day. Lysine is an amino acid that helps prevent the herpes virus from breaking through the skin. If you're subject to frequent attacks, increasing your lysine intake may seriously reduce the number of cold sores you get a year.

2. Take a B complex daily vitamin, along with a zinc vitamin, every day. Fever blisters are spurred on by stress, which B vitamins help regulate. Zinc supports your immune system, which can help you fight off the virus.

3. Use SPF 15 or higher chapstick on your lips every time you go outside. Sunlight and heat can irritate your lips, causing an outbreak.

4. Apply lemon balm to your lips before going to bed. Lemon balm is a fragrant, soothing balm that is very effective in preventing cold sores. It will also help moisturize your lips, an added bonus.

5. Add a burst of fresh lemon to your water. Fever blisters can show up after you've been indulging in spicy, acidic foods, and drinking a tall glass of lemon water can balance out the acidity, keeping cold sores at bay.
