Can Vitamin Supplements Affect Urine Drug Tests

Many people attempt to foil urine drug test by using vitamin supplements. While some vitamin supplements affect urine drug tests results, positively or negatively, very little scientific evidence proves that deceiving these tests is possible. In fact, overuse of certain vitamin supplements actually result in toxicity in those taking these supplements.








Vitamin C


The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws says that consuming Vitamin C supplements affect urine drug tests by giving false negative results. However, people attempting to foil urine drug tests using this method risk getting vitamin toxicity.


Riboflavin


A Food and Drug Administration resource states that riboflavin vitamin supplements affect urine drug tests resulting in a false positive for the tester. It also gives urine a yellowish color because testers become suspicious if urine is colorless.


Vitamin B6


The article "Strategies for Passing the Drug Urine Test" says that Vitamin B6 supplements affect urine drug tests by producing normal results and giving it a yellow color.


Vitamin B12


Vitamin B12, or cyanocobalamin, is a vitamin supplement that affects urine drug tests, giving testers normal results. People take this as part of a drug detox regimen to cleanse the body.


Niacin


The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that many people take niacin in an attempt to deceive urine drug tests. However, the CDC states that there is no evidence that these vitamin supplements affect urine drug tests and people taking large doses of niacin can actually cause toxicity.
