Use Orange Juice To Prevent A Nosebleed

The vitamin C in orange juice will strengthen the small blood vessels in your nose.

Besides trauma, nosebleeds may be caused by nasal membranes thinning or becoming too dry. Nosebleeds are more common in winter when the temperature drops, or in dry desert climates. Once your nose starts to bleed, apply pressure for at least five minutes to help the blood clot. Remain upright or lean forward -- laying down will cause the blood to flow back down your throat. Orange juice won't stop your nosebleed once it's already started, but the citrus bioflavonoids and collagen-building vitamin C it contains may help to prevent future nosebleeds.

Instructions

1. Drink a 4-oz. glass of orange juice every morning. Orange juice is rich in vitamin C and citrus bioflavonoids, which your body uses to produce collagen. Collagen will keep your blood vessels strong, making them less likely to burst. It will also help keep the lining inside your nose moist.

2. Eat other foods that contain vitamin C throughout the day. Strawberries, kiwi and red bell pepper will also boost collagen production and may help lessen the duration of colds by boosting your immune system. If you are prone to nosebleeds, you'll want to avoid blowing and wiping your nose, which will irritate it.

3. Avoid taking aspirin, which will thin the membranes in your nostrils. After your nose has stopped bleeding, be careful not to dislodge the blood clot by blowing or picking your nose.
