Carrots may be a healthy snack that provide vitamin A and other nutrients, but the brightly-colored vegetable can be difficult to remove from clothing and other materials. Many food-based stains, even though they are organic, penetrate deeply into cotton and other fabrics quickly and easily. Treating a carrot stain as soon as it is discovered can increase the chances of removing it from garments or carpets.
Instructions
Remove Carrot Stains from Clothing
1. Remove any solid pieces of carrot that may remain on the clothing before treating the stain.
2. Rinse the item that has been stained with carrot or carrot juice in cold water to try to loosen the carrot from the fibers of the clothing. Be sure not to use hot water at this point, as the heat will cause the stain to set, perhaps permanently.
3. Apply an enzyme-based laundry stain remover to the carrot-stained area of the clothing liberally. Enzyme-based cleansing agents break down fats and proteins that make up organic stains, allowing them to lift the stain from the fabric. Most laundry detergent manufacturers also carry a line of this type of stain remover.
4. Wash the carrot-stained item in the washing machine with regular laundry detergent and a color-safe bleach, unless the clothing care label indicates that bleach should not be used. At this stage, the stain has been treated and it is safe to use hot water. Again, defer to the care tag when choosing the water temperature.
5. Check to see that the carrot stain has been removed from the clothing before drying the garment in the clothes dryer. Rewash the item before drying if an orange residue remains to avoid setting the stain permanently.
