Fruits To Treat Acne

Acne is not just an adolescent problem and can haunt people into middle age. Women are more prone to acne later in life even if they have never suffered from breakouts. There is no one cause, but several factors such as stress, poor diet and improper skin care can contribute to this problem. Fruits to treat acne are an effective approach to solving this issue, and many of the fruits are staples in your kitchen or can easily be picked up at the local grocery store.

Apples

Apples are 90% water and are full of skin purifying nutrients. Eating an apple everyday will help to clear acne because of its content of vitamins and minerals. Apples contain calcium, potassium, phosphorous and iron. They also contain many skin vitamins needed to heal acne such as vitamin A, C and E.

You can also use apples topically on the skin to heal acne blemishes. The vitamin A regulates sebum production, vitamin C will boost circulation to speed healing and the vitamin E will repair skin damage and prevent scaring.

Cut an apple slice and slide it over the face concentrating on the most troubled areas. Let juice soak into the pores for 10 minutes and rinse with cool water.

Bananas

Bananas are full of potassium and vitamin A. These are important for acne because, as mentioned before, vitamin A regulates sebum production. Acne can make skin produce too much sebum causing pores to become clogged, and vitamin A creates the correct balance. Potassium is important for those suffering from acne because it is nature's antibacterial agent. Potassium suffocates the bacteria in cells and clarifies the pores.

Bananas are perfect for acne prone skin that is also extremely sensitive. This fruit contains no known ingredients that have ever been reported to cause skin irritation. Cut a banana over a bowl of cereal everyday to add it to your diet.

Make a banana mask by mashing 1/4 of a banana until a lumpy cream is created. Apply directly to the face and allow it to dry for 20 minutes. Rinse with cool water and pat skin dry.

Papayas

Amanda Watson, author of "Natural Beauty: A Step-By-Step Guide," says that papayas contain natural fruit enzymes, including the protein dissolving enzyme papain, that assist in healing acne. Papain reduces redness and inflammation.

This tropical fruit is most commonly found at its best in the summer which is when oil production for acne prone skin is at its worst. Papaya makes a refreshing breakfast fruit that goes great with whole wheat toast. It also aids in digestion which can help clear skin by eliminating built up toxins in the body.

Cut a slice of a ripe papaya and smooth it over the face. Let the juice sit for 20 minutes and rinse with cool water. You can also mash a papaya and apply it to the face for 20 minutes if you wish to conduct a more concentrated treatment.
