Prenatal Vitamins & Hair Growth

Pregnant women often find that their hair grows at a faster rate. It is believed that this may be due to the changes in hormone levels that occur during pregnancy. However, some women believe that this increased hair growth is caused by prenatal vitamins.

Function

Prenatal vitamins are multivitamins for pregnant women. While they contain most of the vitamins contained in regular multivitamins, they are in the doses that pregnant women need.

Benefits

Many women who are not pregnant also take prenatal vitamins because they believe that the vitamins will help their hair grow longer.

Theories/Speculation

Some people believe that prenatal vitamins increase hair growth because they contain vitamins that are necessary for healthy hair, such as folic acid.

Misconceptions

Currently, there is no proof that prenatal vitamins actually increase hair growth. In fact, many women who try them do not experience an increase in hair growth at all.

Considerations

While taking prenatal vitamins may or may not increase hair growth, eating a healthy diet and taking a daily multivitamin can give your body the nutrition it needs for healthy hair.
