College Gift Basket Ideas

Parents and close relatives typically send their college student care packages or gift baskets while they are away at school to help relieve the pain of homesickness, stress and even actual sickness. Gift baskets can be centered on a variety of themes and should be packaged in handle-less baskets, boxes or cartons for ease during the delivery process. If the basket is delivered in person, any container can be used.

Snack Pack

Snack foods are always a welcome gift for a college student, and a gift basket selection is even better. Snack items should be specific to the student's personal taste, such as his favorite type of cookie, candy bar or cracker snack. Food that preserves well is preferred over perishable items as they need to keep well in a dorm room. Possible snack items include cookies, chips, candies, granola bars, energy bars, hot cocoa mixes, jars of peanut butter and jelly, boxes of crackers or cereal, oatmeal packets, ramen noodle soups, microwave popcorn, tea bags or coffee, fruit snacks, nuts, dried fruits and even his favorite homemade treat.

Pamper Collection

For the overworked and stressed college student, a pamper care basket is essential. Items for the basket include lotions, shampoos, body sprays, fuzzy slippers, massage oil, a stress ball, herbal tea, gourmet chocolates, a manicure kit, nail polishes and makeup, a fluffy bathrobe, shower sponges, girl novel or magazine and if she is over 21 years of age, a bottle of wine.

Kitchen Necessities

A kitchen necessities gift basket is perfect for the first-year college student or for an off-campus student in her own home or apartment. Kitchen baskets can be filled with items such as decorative pot holders and towels, an apron, kitchen utensils such as a whisk, wooden spoon, ladle and spatulas, a set a measuring cups and measuring spoons. The basket can also include gift cards to grocery stores or take-out restaurants for those kitchen-disaster nights. Coffee mugs can be filled with small candies, nuts or treats and wrapped up in clear cellophane. Bottles of spices, salts, peppers, sauces, oils and vinegar also make a nice touch to a kitchen gift basket as many college kids do not have all the essentials yet.

Entertainment

An entertainment gift basket is also a great choice for a student who needs to unwind. Baskets can be filled with DVDs, online music download gift cards, small electronics such as a new camera, cell phone or music player, a gift card to the movie theater, packets of microwave popcorn, candies and cookies and video games (if he already has a video game consul.) Non-electronic gifts can be added including small board games, a pack of cards and brain puzzles such as crossword or Sudoku.

Germ Fighter

The least exciting yet most useful gift basket for a college student is a germ-fighting basket. College classrooms are filled with cold germs during the winter and many college students don't take the time to purchase extra vitamin C at the pharmacy. A germ-fighting basket can contain handy-size packets of tissues, large and small bottles of hand sanitizer, bottles of vitamin C and other vitamins, tea, coffee, bottles of honey, can or dry packet of chicken noodle soup, hot packs or heating blankets, soap bars and even a new blanket and pair of slippers.
