Slim Down Thighs Fast

There are several methods to slimming thighs fast.


Many women complain that their thighs are a common trouble spot when it comes to losing fat and toning up. Many men genetically predisposed to storing fat in the lower body may also find it hard to slim down this area. There are several simple methods to slimming down the thighs in a hurry.

1. Set up a regimen of cardio exercises. If there is a layer of fat covering the thighs, no amount of leg lifts is going to slim the area. Cardiovascular exercise is needed to burn off body fat all over. The Institute of Medicine and the USDA's Dietary Guidelines recommend performing 60 to 90 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity at least five days a week for optimum health and fitness.


2. Modify your diet. Reduce your calorie intake to see positive changes on the scale and on your thighs. Don't bother with gimmicky fad diets: in a study published in the February 26, 2009 "New England Journal of Medicine", researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health concluded that as long as calories are reduced, weight loss will occur, no matter if the diet is low-fat, low-carb, high protein or otherwise.


3. Add targeted thigh exercises such as forward lunges, dips, and inner and outer leg lifts to your exercise routine a few days a week. Working the inner and outer thigh muscles--as well as the hamstrings and quadriceps--will give the thighs a tighter, more toned appearance and will strengthen your legs to give you more power and energy in your daily activities. Be sure to allow muscles to rest for a day between toning sessions.


4. Try a firming cream. Although many creams make outlandish claims without delivering, some topical creams actually do improve the appearance of the thighs by temporarily plumping and stimulating skin with ingredients like caffeine, black tea and retinoids (which are derivatives of vitamin A that encourage collagen production). Paul T. Rose, MD, former professor of clinical dermatology at the University of South Florida, says "Retinoids create a firmer, thicker skin cover that can help camouflage cellulite". Look for creams with retinol listed as an ingredient.


5. Consider liposuction if nothing else works to reduce the size of your thighs. You'll be in good company: according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, liposuction is the most popular form of cosmetic surgery in America. There were 403,684 liposuctions performed in 2006; 350,420 of those procedures were for thigh reduction. Liposuction is recommended for body contouring and should be performed by a licensed physician.
