Dmg & Depression

Depression can cause a person to feel useless and worthless.

Dimethyl Glycine (DMG) is a natural supplement that has been used to help curve symptoms of depression. This supplement helps the body's natural production of energy, which in turn may help people who suffer from depression.

DMG

DMG is used as an antioxidant, anti-aging and anti-cancer agent, and to reduce cholesterol. It goes by other names such as Vitamin B15, Calcium Pangamate, N-Dimethyl Glycine and Pangamic Acid. DMG was first utilized by the Russians to improve athlete's performance and was called a superdrug. Dr. Thomas V. Pipes continued this researched and published an article in The Physician and Sportsmedicine. Pipes described that the athletes had an improvement in their ability to withstand exhaustion.

Side Effects of DMG

According to the Physicians Desktop Reference network, a provider of print and online pharmaceutical information to physicians, the side effects of DMG include breathing problems, tightness in throat or chest and chest pain. This supplement may also cause skin hives, rash, itchy or swollen skin.

Depression

Depression is a serious illness that affects thoughts, mood and physical health. It is classified as a psychiatric illness, which is a general term that covers a wide range of disorders. This illness is a long-term condition involving overwhelming feelings of sadness, emptiness, worthlessness, and can effect a person's personal and professional life. According to the World Health Organization depression will be the second-leading cause of disability by 2020.

DMG and Depression

While studies have shown that DMG does improve the functions of the immune system, there is no published research concluding that DMG helps treat depression. Recently, Dr. Roger V. Kendall published his book "Building Wellness with DMG" which testifies to the healing qualities of DMG. Food Science of Vermont has released DMG vitamins titled Behavior Balance, which helps people to balance behavior patterns, increase social skills and help support immune system functions. There has been anecdotal evidence on Web sites that claim DMG does work, yet it is best to to use personal discernment until there is further research conducted and published.
