Vitamins For Acne Scars

Millions of teenagers and adults suffer from acne. Many times your acne may have faded, but you are left with scars. There are several different vitamins you can use to help diminish the appearance of acne scars and even prevent acne scars from appearing.








Vitamin E


Vitamin E is effective in reducing the appearance of acne scars. According to Dr. Rose Windale, Vitamin E promotes antioxidant activity, tissue repair and healing. Vitamin E can be taken in pill form or can be applied topically to the affected area. If you are going to take it as a supplement, it is recommended to take 15 mg a day.


Vitamin C


According to a study done by Doctors Hiroshi Ikeni and Kitaro Ohmori, Vitamin C is also effective in diminishing the appearance of scars caused by acne. Vitamin C boosts the immune system and helps eliminate free radicals from the body. It can be taken in a pill form or as a topical treatment. If you are taking it as a supplement, it is recommended to take 500-1000 mg a day.


Zinc


Mike Walden, author of "Acne No More: Open the Door to an Acne Free Life," says that zinc can actually prevent acne scars. Zinc is a mineral that help build up your body's immune system and is very beneficial in preventing acne scars because it aids in the repair of tissue. Many over-the-counter acne treatments contain zinc because of its healing properties. If you have acne, taking 15 mg of zinc daily can reduce acne overall, and help it heal faster while also preventing scars.
