Herbal Vitamins For Men

There are vitamins and herbal supplements that focus specifically on male issues.

Herbal and vitamin supplements are believed to promote overall health or alleviate a specific ailment. Because of the biological differences between men and women, some herbs and vitamins work specifically for one sex. Herbs and vitamins for men generally focus on the male issues of low libido, impotence and prostate health.

Saw Palmetto

Saw Palmetto blocks the production of hormones that causes an enlarged prostate. An enlarged prostate is a common problem for men over 50 and can lead to discomfort and loss of bladder control. Saw Palmetto comes from a palm tree on the Atlantic seaboard and is the most common herbal treatment of enlarged prostates, bringing relief to one in three patients. Its an inexpensive supplement although different formulations may produce different results.

Red Clover

Red Clover is another herb to help with prostate issues. It inhibits hormone production, thus inhibiting the growth of the prostate. Its antioxidant effects may decrease the risk of prostate cancer and its large amount of isoflavones also regulate hormonal fluctuations and psoriasis. A study conducted by the manufacturer of Trinovin found an improvement in urine flow and decrease in prostate growth symptoms by 23 percent. The effects of Red Clover can be felt within a month, but after the initial month, move at a much slower rate.

Gingko Biloba

Gingko Biloba is used to treat a wide array of issues. Physically its used to stimulate circulation and mentally its believed to increase concentration and alleviate depression. Combined, this can provide a two-pronged approach to impotence. First, by stimulating circulation it increases blood flow to the penis. This can help men get and maintain an erection. Second, it can help alleviate the stress and depression that have been known to cause erectile dysfunction. Increased concentration can also have a positive effect on maintaining an erection during sexual intercourse. The recommended dosage is 40 to 80 mg three times a day. The downside to Gingko Biloba is you must take it at the steady recommended dosage for possibly months before results are felt.

Muira Puama

The Muira Puama is a small tree in the Brazilian rain forest that increases sex drive and stops impotency. The aphrodisiac effects can be felt by both men and women but has the added male benefit of stopping erectile dysfunction. It also interacts with the male body to help lessen hair loss and acts as a central nervous system tonic. It tones, balances and strengthens the central nervous system while also serving as an anti-depressant. Although gaining notoriety in the U.S., it is most known in Europe and South America.
