Grow Healthy Hair And Nails

Eating a healthy diet improves the health of your hair and nails.

To grow healthy hair and nails you may need to change your lifestyle to a more healthy, vitamin-rich one and take the time out to provide them with the care they need. Your hair and nails, as with other parts of your body, need nourishment and vitamins to thrive. Even if you have a history of brittle nails or dry hair, you can correct this with a few simple changes to your daily routine.

Instructions

1. Nourish your hair and nails by eating a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables, whole wheat and grains, eggs, beans, nuts and cold-water fish such as salmon. Reduce the amount of processed foods you eat by making the majority of your meals at home with fresh ingredients.

2. Drink plenty of water, at least 8 oz. a day. To increase your water intake, eat fruits and vegetables with high water content such as lettuce and watermelon.

3. Take a multi-vitamin every day to ensure you are getting all of the nutrients your hair and nails crave. Vitamins which improve the health of your hair and nails include vitamins A, C, E, B complex, selenium and zinc, among others.

4. Consider switching to an organic shampoo and conditioner to reduce the amount of additives and chemicals used on your hair. If you have dry hair, wash it every other day and apply a deep conditioning treatment once a week.

5. Have your hair trimmed every six to eight weeks to remove split-ends and encourage healthy hair to continue to grow. Reduce the amount of unnecessary heat you use to style your hair such as curling irons, blow dryers and straighteners, which can all cause damage.

6. Cut your nails with a good-quality pair of nail clippers and avoid biting your nails or hang-nails. If you get a hang-nail, trim it with the nail clippers and apply lotion to the area. Keep your cuticles trimmed and moisturized.
