Measure Vitamins In Fruits

Find out how many vitamins are in the fruit you are eating using the Internet.

Getting the proper nutrients from your food is an essential part of being healthy. Vegetables and fruits come packed with natural sources of vitamins. However, being able to determine how many vitamins you are getting out of the fruit you are eating may be somewhat of a mystery, but there are a few simple ways to figure out what vitamins -- and how many vitamins -- you are nourishing yourself with when you eat fruit.

Instructions

1. Use the Internet to figure out how many vitamins are present in any fruit. TheFruitPages.com and HealthyAlternatives2000.com have all of the nutritional information you could want about any fruit. These websites can tell you the amount of vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12, C, D, E, and K present in your fruits.

2. Visit the Center for Disease Control's website. It has a page dedicated to the valuable nutrients present in fruits and veggies. To locate this site, go to www.cdc.gov and click the link for "Healthy Living." Once on the "Healthy Living" page, under the "Staying Healthy" headline, click on "Eat your Fruits and Veggies." From there, choose the "Fruits and Veggies Matter" link to be directed to the page with all the nutritional information for fruits and vegetables.

3. Purchase a food scale and use it to accurately weigh your fruit. Because fruits come in different shapes and sizes, the use of a food scale will allow you to determine just how many vitamin ounces per fruit you are consuming. Use an online chart or the nutritional information on the fruit package, if given, to see how many vitamins per ounce are present. That information, coupled with the correct weight of the fruit, will help you calculate how many vitamins are in the fruit. To do this calculation, multiply the vitamins per ounce by the number of ounces in the fruit in question to get the total number of vitamins in the fruit.
