Negative Side Effects Of Vitamins

People often take vitamins to feel better and to make sure that the body is getting proper nutrients. Vitamins are good for the body but sometimes can cause side effects even when taking the proper dosage. Some side effects may go away during use as the body gets used to the vitamin. If some side effects become worrisome, discontinue use and talk with your physician.

Calcium

Some people who take calcium can experience drowsiness, and calcium deposits can build-up within the tissue throughout the body causing a false positive for cancer during X-ray exams.

Folic Acid

Taking too much folic acid, 15 mg or more daily, can cause a person to have a loss of appetite, nausea, interference with sleep and can interfere in detecting a vitamin B12 deficiency.

Iron

Taking 25 mg of Iron or more daily can cause intestinal upset, loss of appetite, as well as toxic build-up in the heart, liver, and pancreas.

Niacin (B3)

Niacin is known to cause a person to flush, feel nauseous or vomit, and experience headaches. People with liver disease should not use Niacin.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A causes side effects like nausea, vomiting, headache and drowsiness that may go away as the body becomes used to taking the vitamin.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C can cause a person to experience nausea, diarrhea, and flatulence.
