Memory Improvement With Vitamins

Every year thousands of Americans suffer from memory loss. It begins with forgetting simple things such as where we placed a glass of water or a piece of pie. As the condition worsens we forget the names of those that are most dear to us. We also forget our destination while walking from the living room to the bedroom. These behaviors are severe cases of dementia and Alzheimer's, two debilitating diseases that causes memory loss. Nevertheless, memory loss is a result of a deficiency of neurotransmitters in the brain.

Neurotransmitters

Neurotransmitters are major players in memory recall. Neurons are brain cells (axons and dendrites) that stretch toward one another, without actually touching. For thoughts and memories to occur, they need to jump across the gaps between the axons and dendrites. This is the duty of the neurotransmitters, a chemical substance that helps transmit thoughts and memories. If the supply of neurotransmitters is very low, memory loss will occur.

Vitamins and Mineral Deficiency

The lack of neurotransmitters is result of a deficiency of vitamins and minerals in our diets. The critical substance for many neurotransmitters is composed of key vitamins and minerals. Even if you eat three complete meals a day with all the proper nutrients needed for a well functioning body, the supply of neurotransmitters may still be deficient. This happens because key nutrients necessary for a good health are destroyed in the process of cooking. This is where vitamins such as B 12 and other supplements come into play to help stimulate memory and boost brain power.

Treatment

Good brain nourishment is a must for proper performance. Many types of vitamins help boost brain functioning. Here are a few vitamins suggested for helping our brains to function with more focus and clarity:

B 12: one of the most important vitamins in supplying nutrients to the brain

B 6: important to support and maintain the health of the brain; should be taken in a daily value of 2 milligrams with other supplements.

Folic Acid: an important B 6 vitamin, helps increase brain function and prevent memory loss.

Gingko Biloba: a vitamin supplement that improves blood circulation as well as focus.

Goto Kola: an herbal medicine containing vitamins that helps brain circulation, mental performance and recall.
