Sell Supplements Online

Sell Supplements Online

The Internet hosts thousands of sites that sell supplements online to different target markets all over the world. Two basic models exist for people who want to sell supplements online. The first model is affiliate marketing and the second is drop shipping. Affiliate marketers are assigned a special link they may use to generate traffic to the supplement website. When someone buys during their visit, the affiliate is paid a commission for each item. The drop shipping model is used for people who have an e-commerce site where they sell similar products. Each model has advantages and disadvantages.

Instructions

1. Determine your target market niche. Your target market is people who use supplements, but many niche markets exist within the broader target market. Niche markets are smaller segments of the broad market that share a common interest. Bodybuilders and middle-aged women are not looking for the same kind of supplements, therefore they are two examples of niches within the larger target market of supplement users. It is easier to create campaigns and content that helps sell your products if you know exactly what the market wants and needs. Choosing a niche is key to achieving that goal.

2. Choose the business model you want to use to sell supplements online. Drop shipping may offer higher profit margins, but you may not be able to compete on price in the open Internet market depending on the supplier. Drop shipping also requires an e-commerce platform in place which has its own set of costs. Affiliate marketing offers lower payouts, but is possible to do without having your own website. Study both options carefully.

3. Buy a domain name and Web-hosting service. Build a website that showcases the supplements you wish to promote and has graphics and other elements that identify with your niche market. While it is possible to higher professional web designers, do-it-yourself content management systems are available in both free and paid versions (see "Resources"). Having your own website is not strictly necessary to do affiliate marketing, but it offers the chance to establish your business as the expert in the industry and is highly recommended.

4. Research the top-selling supplements for your niche. Take into account factors like seasonal buying patterns, quantities sold, cost and profit margins to estimate the potential profitability of creating a website around those particular supplements.

5. Choose a supplier for your supplements. Different suppliers offer different types of commissions and drop-shipping programs (see "Resources"). Choose one that carries the supplements you wish to promote and has the type of business model you want to use. Follow the instructions to complete the sign up process and receive your affiliate links or product files.

6. Write a review of each of the supplements you are promoting and post them with a link to buy the supplement on your website. Search for comments by other people about the supplements and adapt your review to reflect the overall perception of the product. Use sites like Amazon as good models for website layout, product description and reviews.

7. Drive traffic to your website to increase sales. Traffic is the number one factor in success or failure online. A traditional store that receives zero visits per day will quickly go out of business. It is the same on the Internet. Use Web 2.0 sites, article directories, and free mini-site publishers to create multiple traffic streams to your site. The more visitors you have, the more likely you are to make sales.
