There are five types of kidney stones. Each type occurs as a result of different conditions. The technique used to dissolve the stones will depend on the type of stones you have. The types of kidney stones are: calcium phosphate, calcium oxalate, magnesium ammonium phosphate (struvite stones), uric acid stones and cystine stones. Cystine stones are very rare and are from a hereditary inability to reabsorb cystine. As with any remedy, if your symptoms persist you should see a doctor.
Vitamin C Therapy for Dissolving Kidney Stones
Calcium phosphate stones are very common; 75% of all people get this type. They are easily dissolved with acidic urine. Struvite stones are caused by urinary tract infections. The infections and the stones are both helped by the ascorbic acid in Vitamin C therapy. To use Vitamin C, take 1,000 mg twice a day for 3 days. The stone should be fully dissolved before the three days are up. Continuing to take regular doses of Vitamin C on a daily basis will help to prevent these stones from forming in the future.
Lemon Juice and Olive Oil to Dissolve Kidney Stones
One old remedy to dissolve kidney stones involves using lemon juice and olive oil. This also works for calcium phosphate stones because of the acid that collects in the urine. Those who stand by this treatment state that the lemon juice helps to break up the stones, while the olive oil coats the smaller pieces of stones and allows them to pass through the ureter more easily. For this remedy, drink 2 ounces of lemon juice, 2 ounces of olive oil and follow with an 8 ounce glass of water. You should be free of kidney stones within 24 hours.
Magnesium and Vitamin B for Kidney Stones
Those who are prone to kidney stones should take supplements of magnesium and Vitamin B. Taking daily Vitamin C will not aid in calcium oxalate stones, which can form in acidic urine. However, if the Vitamin C is supplemented with 400 mg. magnesium and any common Vitamin B supplement, calcium oxalate stones cannot form. Taking magnesium supplements can also help to dissolve already formed stones and the Vitamin B reduces oxalate production.
