Long-haired dogs benefit from daily grooming with a spray conditioner.
Dogs, particularly long-haired breeds, often suffer from a dry coat that is prone to matting. Once the hair is matted, it is stressful and often painful for the dog to have the tangles brushed from its coat. Applying a spray conditioner to the dog after bathing it and before brushing it go a long way in preventing matting and also help ease dry skin conditions. Often, the best spray conditioners are those that are homemade and free of chemicals. Most spray conditioners contain basic ingredients such as chamomile, vitamin E, oatmeal and aloe vera.
Instructions
1. Fill a small spray bottle with water and add 2 oz. of aloe vera juice and two or three drops of rosemary essential oil. Puncture a hole in a vitamin E capsule using a needle or the tip of a knife and squeeze the contents into the spray bottle. Replace the cap and shake the bottle to evenly distribute the ingredients.
2. Shake the bottle before applying the mixture and during application, as the ingredients tend to separate. Spray the conditioner onto the dog and brush it through the coat. After brushing, apply another coat as a leave-in conditioner to prevent tangles throughout the day.
3. Monitor the dog's coat the day after applying the conditioner and reapply as necessary.
