Vitamins are an alternative treatment for fighting acne.
Acne occurs when perspiration, dirt, oil and bacteria remain on the skin and clog pores. Though most people use commercial acne products to get clear skin, vitamins are considered a viable alternative treatment. According to the Vitamins & Nutrition Center website, vitamin B5, vitamin B3, vitamin A and vitamin E are examples of acne-fighting vitamins.
Vitamin B5
Stress is a well-known trigger of acne. However, vitamin B5 controls stress in the adrenal gland by reducing the number of hormones present, thereby eliminating anxiety, according to the Vitamins & Nutrition Center website. Adrenaline and cortisol are examples of stress hormones located in the adrenal gland.
Vitamin B3
The Vitamins & Nutrition Center website states that a vitamin B3 deficiency is another cause of acne. Vitamin B3 eliminates acne through improved circulation, reducing the chance of clogged pores. This vitamin is also responsible for metabolizing nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins and fat.
Vitamin A
People with vitamin A deficiencies are also at risk for developing acne, suggests the Vitamins & Nutrition Center. This vitamin contains carotenoids, which are pigments responsible for reducing oil production and strengthening the skin's protective layer. Many topical acne creams are made from Vitamin A.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E contains antioxidants that repair acne tissue damage by reducing inflammation and redness, states the Vitamins & Nutrition Center. The vitamin also prevents cell damage by preventing the oxidation of molecules called free radicals, which can cause damage and disease to the human body.
