Stop Post Pregnancy Hair Loss

After a woman gives birth, hormones within her body will begin to return back to normal levels, which can often lead to hair loss. Typically, hair loss will begin about 3 to 4 months postpartum and can last for up to a year. Hair loss during this time can be gradual, or it can occur very quickly and give a woman the feeling that she is losing all her hair. In fact, the hair is just trying to return to its pre-pregnancy thickness and state. By following some simple routines, you can help reduce hair loss during this time and keep your hair and body healthy.

Instructions

1. Continue taking your prenatal vitamins. Even after a baby is born, it is important for a mother to continue taking prenatal vitamins--especially if she is nursing. In addition, prenatal vitamins will supply the hair and skin with added nutrients to keep them healthy and strong.

2. Wash and condition your hair regularly. Try and wash your hair no more than once a day. Using a conditioning shampoo and conditioner will help keep your hair healthy, but be sure not to over-wash it. Washing it too often can actually dry out your scalp and hair and cause further hair loss.

3. Massage your scalp 1 to 2 times daily. Using your fingertips, gently massage the entire scalp area regularly. Scalp massage is not only relaxing, but it helps stimulate hair growth as well. So, as old damaged hair begins to fall out, new hair can grow in its place.

4. Use a detangler before brushing your hair. When brushing your hair, always use a detangling conditioner (either a spray or serum) to avoid getting knots and tangles stuck in the brush which can pull and damage the hair further.

5. Avoid using heavy creams, hair spray and gels in your hair as much as possible. In addition, avoid using hair dye and damaging treatments on your hair. These things can all lead to further damage and actually increase the amount of hair loss.

6. Maintain a healthy diet. Avoid junk food and foods high in fat content. Eating a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, grains and protein as well as keeping hydrated with water, juice and milk will help maintain healthy hair and skin.
