Information Watersoluble Vitamins

Citrus fruits are a good source of ascorbic acid.


There are two types of vitamins: fat-soluble and water-soluble. Extra fat-soluble vitamins are stored in the liver and are not needed every day. Water-soluble vitamins dissolve and are not stored in the body, so they need to be replenished. The B vitamins are all water-soluble.


Vitamin B1


Vitamin B1 can be found in peas.


Thiamin, or vitamin B1, helps your nervous system and aids in releasing energy from carbohydrates. It's found in peas, liver and whole grains.


Vitamin B2


Vitamin B2 can be found in eggs.


Vitamin B2, or riboflavin, is needed for healthy skin and eyesight. Riboflavin is found in dark green vegetables, eggs and milk.


Vitamin B3


Vitamin B3 can be found in several types of fish.


Niacin, or vitamin B3, aids in digestion, is important for healthy skin, and is good for your nervous system. Niacin is found naturally in peanuts, beans and several varieties of fish.


Vitamin B6


Vitamin B6 can be found in meats.


Vitamin B6 is also known as pyridoxine, pyridoxal or pyridoxamine. It helps your body's metabolism and red blood cells, and is found in leafy green vegetables and meats.


Vitamin B12


Milk contains vitamin B12.


Cyanocobalamin, or vitamin B12, helps red blood cells and is needed to make genetic building materials. It's found only in animal products, including meats, eggs, milk and milk products.


Vitamin C


Strawberries are a great source of vitamin C.


Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is water-soluble and is important for tissues and cartilage, and helps your immune system. Good sources include citrus fruits, strawberries and green peppers.
